Choosing a Retreat
A retreat is an encounter with God in silence, and is a time specifically set aside for this encounter. Going on retreat means setting aside the business of our lives and the demands people make on us, to be quiet in God's presence.
Retreats, like people, come in a wide variety of styles, focus, intention and length. Generally there are two main kinds of retreat: Open (sometimes called Preached); and Guided. If you have not been on a retreat before it may be easier to start with a preached retreat. In these, the leader provides a series of addresses through the retreat. This is often easier for a beginner than an individually guided retreat, as in these, the leader gives guidance on topics and scriptures to pray into and meditate on, and then interacts with each person, separately, on the retreat to guide them in what the Lord may be saying to them.
