Religious Orders

Historically the Community of the Resurrection (CR) and the Order of the Holy Paraclete (OHP) have had communities in southern Johannesburg, and both are an active and influential presence in the Diocese of Christ the King.   OHP at present have Sisters Erica, Pam, Margaret and Maureen - Margaret being newly professed in St Peter's Priory church this year.

Sadly the CR have withdrawn from South Africa to regroup at Mirfield in England following the death of Fr Kingston Erson and because of the age and infirmity of other members.

Our new excitement is an experimental arrangement with Sisters Sibusisiwe and Nondumiso from the Community of the Holy Name (CHN) at Melmoth in Zululand.  They are occupying one of the houses next to the OHP Convent and joining in the life of prayer of the OHP and its visitors to St Benedict's.  They also walk the streets of Rosettenville daily making pastoral contact with prostitutes and others in need.  This ministry has just been extended and confirmed by the Chapter of the CHN and the Bishop of Christ the King, in light of the effectiveness of their ministry.  Following the Special Assignment programme on child prostitution in Pretoria, we have some good contacts with people who have greater experience than we have in addressing prostitution, and we will be working with them especially to help those who have expressed the desire to escape the lifestyle - though this also mean escaping the clutches of the criminal drug lords.

It costs about R 2500 a month to support for their food and medical expenses; would anyone like to donate a month's support?
