The Ordination Service of the Rev Netta Gallant and Rev Neil Scott into the Priesthood
The cold weather did very little to dampen the spirits of the people who came from all corners of the Diocese to witness the ordination of Netta and Neil into the Priesthood. The ordinands seemed ready to take up this responsibility and serve God in their vocation.
The service, conducted by Bishop Peter, took place in the Priory Church of St. Peter, in Rosettenville on 5th July 2009.
The service started at 14:00. Clergy and laity seemed excited and awaited the beginning of the service eagerly.
The procession entered with the ever-loved “The Church’s One Foundation”. Beautifully robed in red, the clergy proceeded into the Priory Church led by the Servers from St. Cyprian’s Sharpeville. The music was the ultimate of the traditional Anglican service, with the bells and smells all round. The congregation was full of excitement as the service started and right through the service.
The two ordinands had just come out of a Retreat led by the Ven Horace McBride, who also preached at the ordination service. The retreat proved to have been just an awesome time they had spent with the Lord. This could be seen in their calmness and gracious smiles they
flashed. Their families right there to support them, they seemed ready to get into the field and do God’s work in the Diocese. The spouses seemed also ready to support these two ordinands, as they took part in the service. Netta’s husband read the first lesson while Neil’s wife read the second lesson.

The spouses seemed also ready to support these two ordinands, as they took part in the service. Netta’s husband read the first lesson while Neil’s wife read the second lesson. The Ven Joan Hepburn and the Ven Ron Daniels presented the two to the Bishop, who also commended the ordinands to the prayers of the people. The liturgy was sung by the Ven Ron Daniels in true Anglican style, which warmed the hearts of those gathered in the church. As the ordinands took their vows, the congregation listened in support of Netta and Neil. I am certain the clergy gathered could not help but recall their own ordination when they lay prostrate before the Bishop to receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit. The Bishop also presented the two with the Bibles for the ministry of the Word and also the Chalices, for the ministry of Holy Communion. Robed in their beautiful red chasubles, the Bishop introduced the two brand new priests of the Diocese to the congregation. The congregation welcomed them warmly. Many ladies stated to ululate and the Priory Church came to a roar. The Bishop also asked that the congregation support them in prayer and ministry.
The Eucharist continued with the administering of the Holy Communion, celebrated by the Bishop, who was flanked by the two new priests by his two sides.
At the end of the service, Revd Netta and Revd Neil started with the ministry of prayer, with many coming to receive a blessing from the two brand new priests. Many also came to wish them well in their upcoming ministry. It was indeed a joyous and blessing service.
We hope and believe that God will complete the good work that He has started in their lives.
May they continue in humility, hard work and perseverance.
